Why can't I log into my cpanel or webmail?

The control panel runs on port 2082 so if you are behind a firewall or proxy server you might have trouble accessing your control panel if that port is blocked.

For some users who are on a LAN for which the firewall is blocking the above outgoing port, they may bypass the above ports by installing the CpanelProxy script into their cPanel hosting account. This can be done easily with the following easy steps:

   1. Create a subdomain namely cpanel / webmail / whm in the cPanel control panel
   2. Download the cPanel Proxy script from cPanel Proxy sourceforge download page.
   3. Once downloaded to your local terminal, unzip and upload it via FTP to the subdomain cpanel / webmail / whm which you have setup in Step 1.
   4. Access your site via http://cpanel.yourdomain.com for the cPanel control panel, http://whm.yourdomain.com for WHM or http://webmail.yourdomain.com for webmail.

Please note that there is a possible security risk of enabling this feature on your hosting account. For every successfull login attempt to the cPanel control panel (without the cPanel Proxy script), you will see a message "Last login from: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx" at the top of the cPanel control panel window, where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the IP address of the last user who logged in to the control panel. This is a security feature to keep track of the last user to login to your cPanel control panel.

However, with the cPanel Proxy script installed on your cPanel account, the last login from IP will always be shown as 127.0.0.1, which is a local IP. As such, it removes any access tracing in case your cPanel control panel is being compromised.

As such, we would urge users who have this installed to only login with the cPanel Proxy script in cases where TCP port 2082 / 2086 / 2095 is blocked on the LAN firewall and the administrator does not allow for this to be bypassed. Users who have this installed may still access their cPanel using http://yourdomain.com/cpanel (access via port 2082) or http://cpanel.yourdomain.com (access via cPanel Proxy script).
